Love Never Fails

When it feels like the world is on fire, we never know how much we should let our kids see. How do we protect their innocence without shielding them from the suffering of others?

At a time when lines seem clearly drawn between "us" and "them"  when the comment sections are volatile and the news doesn't stop and we all feel a bit hopeless, a bit desperate, a bit sad, a bit angry, a bit confused — what are we supposed to do?

Martin Luther King Jr. said, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” Despite the injustices that he spent his life staring down and fighting against, Dr. King knew something about humanity. Even in darkness, even in despair, there is always a flicker of hope. In every corner of our world, there are good people doing the slow, hard, heavy work that love demands.

Keeping our children ignorant of the injustices in our world doesn’t make the world any more just, but maybe that intersection of suffering and love is the right meeting spot for all of us. It’s an opportunity to say yes, there is great need, but look — there is also great love. An unflinching truth, laced with seeds of hope.

This is the tenuous-yet-precious place where we’ve chosen to plant our flag. Mother Teresa is famous for encouraging “small acts with great love,” and that’s what we are striving toward this month.

Preemptive Love Coalition is a nonprofit providing life-saving heart surgeries for children, emergency aid and relief for families victimized by ISIS, empowering grants for small businesses, and education for at-risk children. They’re one of the few organizations on the ground in Syria, feeding as many as 50,000 people in a single day. Every day, they act as the hands and feet of love in hurting places in our world.

Today, we’re asking you to love generously and make a donation in the name of hope, in the name of being a light in the darkness. For donations of $5 or more, Coffee + Crumbs is offering an exclusive “Love Never Fails” downloadable print, hand-lettered by Rachel Allene. All proceeds will be donated to Preemptive Love Coalition on March 1st.

The last time we held a digital fundraiser, we raised over $2,000 for Carry The Future in a span of two weeks. We know that when a large group of people come forward with small offerings, together, we can make a meaningful impact.

We hope you will stand with us, babies in our arms and children grasping our legs. Let’s show them our love. After all, it hasn’t failed us yet.
